The "Intelligent Fuel Blending Project" of SCIYON has been appraised at the international advanced level, setting a new benchmark for the intelligent transformation of thermal power
On November 23rd, the project "Research and Application of Key Technologies for Intelligent Fuel Blending and Control for the New Generation of Coal-fired Power" jointly completed by Datang Nanjing Power Plant, Nanjing SCIYON Technology Group Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Normal University passed the authoritative appraisal of the Chinese Association of Automation. The committee unanimously agreed that the overall technology of the project reached the international advanced level, among which the method of establishing the coal quality evolution model of the coal bunker based on virtual sensing technology reached the international leading level.

Jin Yaohua, an external director of China First Heavy Industries Group Corporation and the chairperson of the Power Generation Automation Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, served as the chairperson of the appraisal committee, Yang Xinmin, the chief expert of Xi 'an Thermal Power Research Institute Co., LTD., and Jin Feng, the vice-chairperson of the power Generation Automation Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, served as vice-chairpersons. Industry-university-research-use collaboration addresses the core pain points of the industry
Driven by the deepening of the "dual carbon" strategy and the accelerated construction of a new power system, thermal power enterprises are facing multiple pressures of ensuring supply, reducing costs and cutting emissions. Fuel costs account for more than 70 percent of the operating costs of thermal power, and the intelligent upgrade of its management level has become the key to the high-quality development of the industry.
"Research and Application of Key Technologies for Intelligent Blending and Control of Fuel for the Next Generation of Coal-fired Power" directly addresses the core pain points in traditional fuel management such as "data fragmentation, rough blending, cumbersome operation, and difficult benefit control", aiming to create an integrated intelligent control system for the entire process from fuel "entering the plant" to "entering the furnace".

At the appraisal meeting, Hu Ximei, the vice chairman and president of SCIYON, introduced in his welcoming speech that the project has gathered the wisdom and hard work of the three teams. It has achieved efficient calculation of completing the 12-hour plan within 15 minutes for the intelligent blending scheme, and has made key breakthroughs such as unmanned operation of the stacker-reclaimer and one-click start and stop of the coal conveying process. It truly pushed the management of thermal power fuel into a new stage of "data-driven".

After thorough reports, answers and discussions, the appraisal committee unanimously agreed that: The project, in response to the overall technical requirements of the new generation of coal-fired power, conducted relevant research in areas such as intelligent modeling of boiler combustion, optimization of multi-coal blending, virtual perception of coal quality in raw coal silos, and fusion of multi-source heterogeneous data, developed an intelligent fuel blending and control system for the new generation of coal-fired power, and carried out engineering demonstration verification. The overall technology of the achievement has reached the international advanced level, among which the method of establishing the coal quality evolution model of the coal bunker based on virtual perception technology has reached the international leading level.

Four key technological innovation points
Dynamic models, intelligent decision-making: Using artificial neural network algorithms, dynamic models of different coal qualities, auxiliary machine output conditions and boiler combustion efficiency were constructed. Based on long-term load predictions, combined with constraints such as procurement and transportation, linear programming algorithms were used to determine the optimal fuel procurement and storage schemes, improving the economic benefits of the units.
Intelligent optimization, safety and economy: Based on short-term load forecasting and actual requirements of the unit, digital coal yard data and boiler efficiency model, an intelligent co-firing optimization method based on genetic and quantum grey Wolf algorithms is proposed, which improves the safety and economy of boiler combustion.
Virtual perception, dynamic prediction: Based on virtual perception technology, a method for establishing a coal quality evolution model in the raw coal bunker was developed to provide real-time dynamic prediction parameters of coal quality entering the furnace, control coal loading in the coal bunker and efficient combustion of the boiler and optimized operation of the coal mill, and improve the profitability of the unit to adapt to spot trading under the new power system.
Integrated platform, visualized management: A fuel integrated intelligent control platform has been constructed, achieving multi-source data fusion and sharing of process data, coal quality monitoring data, inspection image data, and three-dimensional point cloud data, and improving the visualized management level of coal quantity and coal quality.

The expert team also conducted an on-site inspection at Datang Nanjing Power Plant, where they observed the application effects of intelligent blending and unmanned stacking and retaking, and highly praised its intelligent, precise and efficient operation mode.
